Enabling a Global Market for SAF
Achieving net zero CO₂ emissions by 2050 will require the coordinated efforts of the entire industry and support from governments. The Civil Aviation Decarbonization Organization (CADO) is contributing to this target by enabling a global market for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), through the SAF Registry.
CADO was created to maintain and operate the IATA-developed SAF Registry. Its mission is to unite stakeholders across the SAF value chain and accelerate the aviation sector’s decarbonization efforts, with the overarching goal of achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
Membership
CADO’s founding member is the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which provides ongoing technical and operational support for the SAF Registry. Membership in CADO is open to international organizations and companies in the SAF value chain, including:
SAF Value Chain
Organizations directly involved in or contributing to the SAF value chain, or representing associations or groups within the value chain.
States
States or quasi-state entities with a vested interest in the SAF Registry’s operations and benefits.
Other Stakeholders
Other relevant stakeholders indirectly benefiting from SAF deployment in aviation.
CADO SAF Registry – A Global Solution for SAF Accounting & Reporting
The CADO SAF Registry is a global system that records SAF transactions in an accurate, standardized, and transparent way. It ensures that the environmental benefits of SAF can be tracked as they move across the SAF value chain and enable their claiming under regulatory obligations and voluntary schemes by airlines and corporate customers.
Tailored specifically to meet the needs of the aviation sector, the Registry offers benefits to fuel producers, suppliers, airline customers, and State authorities.
Under CADO's management, the Registry works to enable a global market for SAF to accelerate the transition to net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
Connecting airlines with SAF producers & suppliers
The SAF Registry connects airlines and suppliers to overcome the challenge of limited SAF supply - which is acutely scarce and available in only a few locations globally
Unlocking in-sector emissions reductions
The SAF Registry gives access to in-sector emissions reductions and capitalizes on firms’ capacity to co-finance the cost of decarbonization
Boosting diverse SAF production and a global approach
Technology and feedstock neutral, the SAF Registry favors the emergence of diverse SAF production streams and accommodates specific regulations, while favoring global harmonization
